If you have Scottish roots, Scots Roots Research can help you discover your Scots family’s past and start to build your Scots family tree.
Scots Roots Research is based on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we have easy access to all of the Scottish records available there – records dating back, in some cases, to the 16th century.
The main Scots family history records that can be searched include:

| Censuses | 1841 to 1911 |
| Old parish records | 1553 to 1854 (depending on the parish) |
Scots Roots Research will search the Scottish family history records on your behalf and send you the results in a package containing ancestor trees, descendant trees and a full report containing transcripts of all of the Scottish family history records we have consulted – something we are sure that you and your family will enjoy and keep to pass on to future generations. We would recommend that we start with one line of your family at a time, your father’s line or your mother’s line perhaps, and take that back as far as we are able – usually to the late 1700s, further back with a bit of luck. Of course, if you want to follow more than one line immediately, we will be happy to oblige. To get started with your Scots family history research we will need whatever information you have on the person or family you want to research – name, date of birth, marriage or death and, if possible, a place. Any other information you have on your Scots family would also be helpful. Please click Contact Scots Roots Research for contact details. If you want to include scans of your own photographs in your Scots family history report, that can be arranged. If you just want a copy of a document, that can also be arranged. If you aren’t entirely sure whether or not you have Scots roots, let us know what information you do have and we will do a free preliminary search to find out whether a birth, marriage or death was recorded in Scotland. |
