Scots Family History Research:

Family History Research service

Scots Roots Research will start work on a project as soon as we can following receipt of payment.
We will search the statutory records on the customer’s behalf and issue the results in a package containing ancestor trees, descendant trees and a full report containing transcripts of all of the records we have consulted.
However, please note:

The writing on old documents is often either faded by time or written by someone with poor handwriting skills and often both of these. We will transcribe place names, diseases and names of people as best we can.
Similarly, the names of people were written down as heard by the person doing the recording and not always spelt correctly.
Birthdays weren’t as important in the past as they have become. People, generally, often had only a rough idea of how old they were. Therefore, although censuses were carried out every 10 years, people occasionally appear to have aged only 5 or 6 years between censuses.

Cancellation

The customer will have the right to cancel the order (in writing) within 7 days of ordering, and any payment received will be returned within 30 days of cancellation.

Payment

The easiest way to pay is by credit card using PayPal. However if you do not wish to do that you can pay by sterling cheque, or by foreign currency cheque, but for the latter please add £6 to cover bank charges. Cheques to be made payable to Scots Roots Research and sent to the address shown on the Contact Scots Roots Research page.

Delivery Time and postage

It will normally take 4 to 6 weeks for a family history to be researched. Information will be sent to the customer using a standard postal delivery service but we can send it ‘recorded delivery’ if the customer pays the additional postage charge.

Information provided by the customer

If the customer provides us with wrong information and we carry out work on that basis, we will not normally offer a refund.

Information security

Scots Roots Research is registered as a Data Controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998 and all information provided by or to a client will be treated accordingly.

Legal issues

Scots Roots Research will assume that the customer owns the copyright of a supplied image or that he has obtained permission from the owner. The customer will be liable for any resulting violation of copyright law if action is taken by a third party.
Please do not send us pornographic, obscene or abusive images as it is illegal.
